Global climate action will be supported by Egypt and UAE at COP28

The Egyptian Foreign Minister, Sameh Shoukry, reiterated Egypt’s commitment to continuing to work closely with the UAE during its presidency of COP28. To address the critical challenges facing developed countries, he highlighted the importance of maintaining the commitment of developed countries to their financing pledges, as well as accelerating the reform of international financing institutions and multilateral development banks.

In the 159th session of the Arab League Council, held on Wednesday at the Arab League’s headquarters at the level of foreign ministers, Shoukry highlighted the importance of addressing climate change and related security issues, as well as food and water security, which Arab countries must prioritize since climate change has the greatest impact on them.

Under this framework, Shoukry called on everyone to join the initiatives launched by the Egyptian presidency during COP27 held in Sharm El Sheikh. These initiatives included those related to water, food and green hydrogen, as well as the Sustainable Debt Coalition. In order to address these challenges and meet the aspirations of Arab people, Egypt calls on Arab countries to strengthen their collective action to make the Arab League an influential force in defending Arab interests.
